C. Cafes” have been serious derailed by federal sequestration budget cuts. Keller Williams Realty in Walnut Creek plans to help.

On RED Day, Thursday, May 9—the company-wide day of community service—more than 80,000 agents from across the globe are helping to make their local communities better. The 100 agents in Walnut Creek hope to raise funds and awareness to support Contra Costa’s most vulnerable seniors who benefit from Meals on Wheels Senior Outreach Services programs.

Decreased funding and community donations are causing Meals on Wheels to significantly decrease the number of available meals and perhaps even reduce the number of daily delivery routes.

]]> http://www.mowsos.org/meals-on-wheels-needs-help-to-feed-homebound-seniors/feed/ 0 Workshop for Family Caregivers a Success http://www.mowsos.org/caregiver-workshop-lifesaving-for-family-caregivers/ http://www.mowsos.org/caregiver-workshop-lifesaving-for-family-caregivers/#comments Mon, 22 Apr 2013 16:56:06 +0000 Chris http://www.mowsos.org/?p=3975 Family Caregiver is a term typically referring to an unpaid family member of an older adult needing support for daily living activities.  This is a position that comes along with a variety of challenges – physical, emotional, and financial.  Our Home Care Registry Program, funded through a grant from the Area Agency on Aging, has put together a free workshop to address these challenges.  Our first workshop, held April 6 in Walnut Creek, offered unpaid caregivers a day of support, pampering, training, and education.  Guests left with knowledge of local resources and reminders to take care of themselves as they take care of their loved ones.

One attendee in particular expressed how the workshop helped her:

“I would  like to commend your Home Care Registry for the outstanding Caregiver Workshop which I attended on April 6.  Before I received the flyer, I felt  I didn’t know how I was going to go on in taking care of both my 90 year old parents for the past 12 years (mother in nursing home, father in his home).  I was so relieved to know someone cared and understood!  I am so very, very grateful to have had this opportunity to be a part of this wonderful sharing of information!  Your group went above & beyond the call of duty!  I’m tired, but I feel so much better knowing I have support for  my parents & myself too!”
