Program: Friendly Visitor
Friendly Visitor
Enrich Lives Through Friendship and Caring
'All it takes is about an hour a week to make a difference in the life of someone who needs a friend.'
Senior Outreach Services provides a community program that matches local seniors with friendly volunteers who want to make a real difference in someone’s life. Volunteers provide an important link to the outside world that help elders who are isolated maintain their independence.
Who are Friendly Visitors?
Someone like you. Individuals who are dependable, caring and cheerful. Community members who enjoy interacting with an elderly person by making visits on a regular basis.
Friendly Visitors are volunteers who are screened, trained and matched with a homebound or lonely senior who is in need of friendship. Referrals to the program are made by area service agencies, churches, family members and programs serving seniors who are age 60 and over.
What do Friendly Visitors do?
Simple things. Fun things. Things like:
+ Read aloud
+ Have tea and conversation
+ Play a favorite game
+ Share memories
+ Write a letter to a friend or loved one
+ Be a good friend and a good listener
Program Costs
This is a free program, underwritten by Senior Outreach Services and supported in part by the Area Agency on Aging and Contra Costa County.
