Meals on Wheels: Volunteering
FAQ's for Potential Volunteers
What types of volunteering opportunities do you offer?
We mostly recruit volunteers to deliver meals to our clients between the hours of 10:00am through 12:00noon. Occasionally we are other opportunities to volunteer to help with special events and/or office work.
What is the time commitment to volunteer to deliver meals?
Generally it is two hours a day once a week for our permanent drivers. For our substitute drivers (those drivers filling in on days our permanent drivers are unable to drive) it may be once every other week or whenever we call and need a route filled. We always need more drivers!
What does becoming a volunteer driver include?
Delivering meals includes driving to one of our seven site locations, picking up 12-16 meals and delivering them to 12-16 residences. It takes about an hour and a half to two hours to complete a route and return the two containers that whole the individual meals to the site location where you began your route.
When do you need volunteers?
Monday through Friday, 10am to 12 noon for people volunteering to deliver meals. Other volunteer opportunities can be morning or afternoon.
Can I volunteer with a group?
Yes! In fact, we encourage it. Create a volunteer team at your church, with a social group or at work!
How to I sign up to volunteer?
Call us between 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday at (925) 937-8607 (our direct line)
